Farmer Notes

*This is box #4 of your Fall share – the final box will be in 2 weeks on December 16th.  We have Winter shares still available – please read our farm article in this newsletter down below to learn more about it!
*We hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!  Were you able to integrate any of your share box produce into any of the meals?
*Your leeks today come unwashed – they seem to get a little slimy if they become too wet
*Try some leek and potato soup, or fried potatoes with scallions
*The pie pumpkin can be baked and then scooped out and frozen to be used for a soup, bars, or pie later on
*The Swiss chard is beautiful from our caterpillar tunnel
*The greens mix is baby red kale, arugula, romaine leaves, and a leaf lettuce blend
*The cauliflower was challenging with the freeze/thaw cycle even though it was well covered.  We gave you the best of what we had
*Cabbage will be a constant moving forward: Napa or red and green storage
*Kohlrabi is a delicious and healthy snack – crinkle cut it and put it in water in your fridge for a sweet crunch anytime
*Thank you for returning our boxes each week

We sure hope that you have been enjoying all of the Autumn vegetables in your Fall Share boxes so far.  We still have the storage kohlrabi, Napa cabbage, green storage cabbage, a few double covered carrots, and the Brussels sprouts to bring in from the field over the next few days.  The kale and collard greens and herbs are the only crops that will remain out in the field under a couple layers of row cover.  There is still no mention of snow, to speak of, in the forecast.  I wanted to just give you all a list of what crops to expect in our Winter share boxes if you choose to purchase that:  https://earthdancefarm.net/csa-registration/.

It is a 5 bi-weekly delivery much like our Fall share has been and runs from Jan. 6th through March 3rd.  Kale, collard greens, rosemary and thyme, limited greens like spinach from the hoop house, kohlrabi, napa cabbage, green and red cabbage, garlic, onions, brussels sprouts, beets, squash, potatoes, carrots, dry beans, popcorn, honey, daikon radishes, and turnips.  It is fun to preserve our produce and pass it along to you during the dead of winter – we hope you will consider joining us!!
